US Muslims Share Ramadan in Baltimore

MARYLAND – The Council on American-Islamic Relations held its Sharing Ramadan campaign event Saturday in Baltimore.

Members of CAIR and other volunteers spent part of their day filling bags with food that will be given out to people who are less fortunate.

“Ramadan is a month for giving and sharing,” CAIR said on Facebook.

“In this spirit, the campaign – being held in partnership with ICNA Relief, Muslim Community Center, An-Nur Foundation, and Islamic Center of Maryland – was inspired by the desire to share the blessings of Ramadan with surrounding interfaith communities.

The event falls in line with the holy month of Ramadan, which is a time for self-reflection, contemplation and discipline for Muslims around the world.

Ramadan is the holiest month in the Islamic calendar. It started in North America on Wednesday, May 16.

In Ramadan, adult Muslims, save the sick and those traveling, abstain from food, drink, smoking and sex between dawn and sunset.

Muslims dedicate their time during the holy month to become closer to Allah through prayer, self-restraint, and good deeds.
