Ramadan is the holiest month in Islamic calendar.
In Ramadan, adult Muslims, save the sick and those traveling, abstain from food, drink, smoking and sex between dawn and sunset.
Muslims dedicate their time during the holy month to be closer to Allah through prayers, self-restraint, and good deeds.
Similar warm wishes have been sent by UK’s Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson to Muslims in Britain and across the world at the start of Ramadan.
“As Muslims at home and across the world begin the holy month of Ramadan I want to wish you all Ramadan Kareem,” Minister Johnson said in his message published Wednesday on the UK government website.
“Ramadan is a time of self-reflection, but also of being part of something bigger; fasting together, prayer and the gathering of families.
“Ramadan is also about the values of compassion, charity, and selflessness. Values that unite us all.”
