Muslim Women’s Group Set to Stitch World’s Largest Blanket

LINCOLN – Muslim women in Lincoln, in the East Midlands of England, are attempting to make the world’s largest crochet blanket to help the homeless, as well as patients in the Children’s Ward at Lincoln City Hospital and at the Cancer Ward of QMC.

“The Lincoln Muslim Sisters Forum is inviting people to join them in this attempt to spread peace and help homeless and suffering people by asking them to contribute in stitching and/or donate through various platforms,” the group said.

“We aim to get the whole community together regardless of background and to include older people too to help break their isolation,” Lincoln Muslim Sisters Forum, The Lincolnite reported.

The group aims to attract people from all works of life in hopes of breaking the Guinness Book of World Records’ previous record. They are hoping to raise enough funding to buy 22,000 meters of wool.

Inviting women of all faiths to join, they will also hold classes to teach people who want to help the team learn how to crochet.

The current world record is held by the Nelson Mandela Foundation, who stitched 67 blankets of 17,188.57 square meter(s) for Nelson Mandela Day.

Britain is home to an estimated Muslim minority of nearly 2.7 million, according to 2011 survey.
