WALES – British Muslim schoolchildren have revealed the torrent of Islamophobic abuse they receive on a daily basis in a harrowing video shared by The Children’s Commissioner for Wales.

The video will be used as a new teaching resource to help schools tackle Islamophobia.

One pupil told the commissioner’s office: “I’ve been called P***, terrorist, told to go back to my own country, asked if I’ve got bombs in my bag.”

Another said: “People tend to avoid the seat next to me, maybe because they know I’m a Muslim because of my scarf.”

A young male student who appeared visibly shaken said he tries to go out with his mum and sisters whenever he can because they live in fear of acid attacks.

“Me and my cousins, the male ones, we’d go with them just to make them feel safer but it restricts them so much. And it does, it hurts,” he said.

Children’s Commissioner Sally Holland said she decided to release the videos because it is “important to present experiences of young people honestly.”
