Do you know your Creator?

In this video, sister Yasmin Mogahed shares her reflections on several stories in the Qur’an, starting with the story of the mother of Moses, peace be upon him. God commanded her to throw her child in the water to protect him from Pharaoh.

This is one of the most powerful stories in the Qur’an, as it is virtually impossible for a mother to throw her child in the water, but she did. She trusted Allah and obeyed His command.

The second story is that of Prophet Moses, peace be upon him, when he was trapped with the Red Sea in front of him and Pharaoh and his army behind him. What did he do? He trust Allah and said “Indeed, with me is my Lord and He will guide me.” (26:62)

The third story is the story of Lady Hagar, the wife of Prophet Abraham, peace be upon him, when she was left in the middle of the desert with her baby. An impossible situation, but when she knew it was the command of Allah, she put her trust in Him. She did her best effort looking for water and worked hard running between the two mounts of Safa and Marwa, and the end result was water flowing from under her baby’s legs.

The important lesson here is that Allah takes care of you, but you have to do your part.

The fourth and last story in this talk is that of Prophet Abraham, peace be upon him, when he was about to be thrown into the fire by his people. His strong faith (Tawheed) was so solid, he knew that despite it looked like an impossible situation, but help would come from Allah. So when angel Gabriel came to him and asked him if he needed help, his answer was not from you but from Allah.

These stories in the Qur’an are not just stories we read, but a source of inspiration for us to emulate the lessons learned for us to trust Allah (SWT).
