Is Hajj Invalidated If I Fainted at Mount Arafah?

10 August, 2019
Q As-salamu alaykum. If someone fainted while standing on Mount Arafat and he was taken to the hospital and then he was not discharged until the Day of Arafah was over, is the Hajj acceptable or since the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Hajj is Arafah" he must re-do it?

Answer

Wa `alaykum as-salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

In this fatwa:

As he fainted while standing on Mount Arafah, then his standing is sufficient and his Hajj is valid.

In his response to your question, Sheikh Muhammad Nur Abdullah, former president of the ISNA (Islamic Society of North America) and member of the Fiqh Council of North America, states,

If the pilgrim catches some time from the day and night, then the standing on Arafah has been fulfilled and his hajj will be accepted insha’Allah.

Moreover, Sheikh `Abdul-Majeed Subh, a prominent Azhar University scholar, adds,

As he fainted while standing on Mount Arafah, then his standing is sufficient and his Hajj is valid. What is required is to stand at Arafah even for a moment on the day or night of Arafah.

Allah Almighty knows best.
