Wa Alaykum Assalam Dear Sister and Ramadan Mubarak!

Thank you so much for your question and for contacting Ask About Islam.

For all the ladies who get disappointed when they go through this period during the blessed month of Ramadan, don’t worry at all!

How to Make the Best of Ramadan During Menstruation?

There are plenty of activities and acts of worship you can do to stay spiritually connected. Here are a few ideas:

1Make lots of dua (supplication) in Ramadan during your menstruation. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:

“Supplication is the essence of worship” [Tirmidhi].

Also, He said:

“Verily supplication is worship.” [Related by the four Imams and At-Tirmidhi graded it as Sahih].

So, make dua, all day, this is available for you 24/7 and it is an act that is rewarded greatly and it increases you in connection with Allah (SWT).  Allah Almighty Himself says in the Quran

{And your Lord says: Call upon Me; I will respond to you.} (Quran 40:60)

So, call upon Allah and make dua for yourself, for all you need in this world and the next, make dua for your parents, for your family, for the deceased loved ones, for the poor and the oppressed around the world, for the ummah and for all of humanity.

2- You can read Quran through your mobile phone. There are plenty of applications for that. You can also listen to the recitation of the Quran and reflect on its beautiful deep meanings. Reflecting on the Quran is a major act of worship.

Allah (SWT) says:

{[This is] a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], that they might reflect upon its verses and that those of understanding would be reminded.} (Quran 38:29)How to make the best of Ramadan during menstruation

3- You can memorize even one line of the Quran every day during those days. Imagine the huge thawab (reward) and productivity and joy and light you will feel by doing that!

4- You can watch Islamic lectures online; especially Quran tafseer (exegesis) lectures like the ones by Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan, and many others.

5- You can attend halaqas (religious gatherings).

6- You can make lots of dhikr (remembrance of Allah), that’s key to spirituality and connection with Allah. Remembering Allah, uttering His Names, glorifying Him, thanking Him, remembering Him through tasbeeh and tahleel and takbeer and other adhkar are all great ways of worship and means for enormous reward and connection with Allah (SWT).

Remember the following important hadiths in this regard:

The Prophet said:

“Should I not inform you of the best of your deed, and the purest of them with your Master, and the highest of them in your ranks, and what is better for you than spending gold and silver, and better for you than meeting your enemy and striking their necks, and they strike your necks?” They said: “Of course.” He said, “The remembrance of Allah [Most High].” [Then] Mu’adh bin Jabal [may Allah be pleased with him] said: “There is nothing that brings more salvation from the punishment of Allah than the remembrance of Allah.” [Jami` at-Tirmidhi]

And The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:

“When a group of people assemble for the remembrance of Allah, the angels surround them (with their wings), (Allah’s) mercy envelops them, tranquility descends upon them and Allah makes a mention of them before those who are near Him.” [Muslim]

Also, The Messenger of Allah said:

“Allah the Exalted says: ‘I am as my slave expects me to be, and I am with him when he remembers Me. If he remembers Me inwardly, I will remember him inwardly, and if he remembers Me in an assembly, I will remember him in a better assembly (i.e., in the assembly of angels).”[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

7- You can prepare or buy food and feed a fasting person.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:How to make the best of Ramadan during menstruation

“He who provides a fasting person something with which to break his fast, will earn the same reward as the one who was observing the fast, without diminishing in any way the reward of the latter.” [At-Tirmidhi].

There are many beautiful, enriching activities to do that can still be done in Ramadan during  menstruation.

Focus on pleasing Allah, learning about Him, connecting with Him, serving His slaves … and you will find yourself spiritually uplifted always.

May Allah accept from you and enrich your life with His remembrance.
