Q:

As-salamu alaykum.

My question is pretty simple and I want to know if I (male) can be roommate with a female.

I know it might not be possible but I am SAA (same sex attracted) muslim and I can’t really have any lust, attraction or something like that towards females.

I’m asking this because I’ve read somewhere that the Prophet s.a.v.s allowed some males who were also SAA to be with his wives in the house but later didn’t allow them because they started describing women bodies to other people, I don’t remember the exact details but it was something like that.

So could this be applied to my case ?

All praise is due to Allah. Peace and blessings be upon His Messenger Muhammad.

Homosexuality is a great affliction and an outrageous perversion. It incurs Allah’s wrath and punishment. In different places and various verses the Quran speaks about the horrible chastisement unleashed on the People of Prophet Lot for their evil homosexual practices. 

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “The things that I fear most for my ummah (nation) is the practice of the People of Lot.” [Al-Tirmidhi]

So, you need to repent sincerely to Allah and earnestly pray to him to help you get rid of this affliction. Homosexuality is not something normal and thus needs therapy. You need to consult a trustworthy psychologist to help you with this problem.

It helps you also to know the diseases caused by homosexuality. These include: 1.AIDS; 2. viral hepatitis; 3. Syphilis; 4. Gonorrhea; 5. herpes disease; 6. anal bacterial infections; 7. typhoid disease; 8. intestinal worms; 10. Scabies; 11. pubic lice disease; 12. anal cancer virus; and 13. granulomatous disease of the reproductive lymphatic. I do not think that any man of a sound mind would like to have any of these diseases.

Islam has strong restrictions that regulate interactions between members of opposite sexes. Islam intends to build a community based on chastity, modesty and bashfulness.

Therefore, Islamic teachings have laid restrictions on the interaction between marriageable men and women to block all ways to evil practices. Islam takes prohibitive measures and does not wait for evil to take place.

Women have been commanded to observe hijab, which is much more than a head scarf; it is a lifestyle and a way of conduct. Both men and women have been commanded to lower their gazes, not to look at members of the opposite sex except for a legitimate reason, and not to be in privacy with one another.

Unnecessary mingling between marriageable men and women is not permissible and any contact has to be within the Islamic guidelines in this regard. All evil practices between men and women are results of neglecting such teachings.

The case of that person who was allowed to enter Prophet Muhammad’s houses does not apply here; because that person was not a homosexual but an effeminate. This is why he was allowed to be in the company of women until he gave description of a woman in a sexual manner that indicated his mannish sexuality.
