Helping those in need regardless of their faith is a key tenet of Islam.
As coronavirus hits more than 100 countries around the world, face masks and antibacterial hand gel are becoming more and more expensive as the demand increases.
However, the Muslim owner of a cornershop in Scotland found it a great opportunity to increase his hasanat (reward for good deeds) instead of money.
The free kits, which are given to customers over the age of 65, include facemasks, antibacterial hand gel, and cleaning wipes.
“We have given away 500 bags,” Asiyah Javed, who helps her husband Jawad in Day Today Express shop, told The Scotsman.
“On Saturday I was out, and I met an old woman, she was crying because she had been to the supermarket and there was no hand wash.
“I feel it is not fair on elderly people, some can’t get out of the house.
“We are delivering 30 packages to a care home where there are 30 people living, and we’ve got another couple of hundred in the shop.
“Some people are asking for them to be delivered as they’re old, or disabled, or don’t drive. We are just trying to help people who can’t get out of the house.”
This is not the first time for the couple to give away free items to the needy.
They delivered milk free of charge to elderly people during the Beast from the East, in spring 2018.
