Never Be Stingy to Make Dua

One of the most powerful verses in the Quran about dua is:

your Lord has announced: make dua and I will respond.

(40:60)

This is a colossal condition; if you make dua, then Allah will respond to you.

What this means is very simple. Every single dua will be responded to by Allah. This is explicitly mentioned in the hadith. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

There is no servant of Allah that makes dua except that Allah will give him what he wants, or He will give him something equivalent, or will avert a calamity away.

You make dua, “O Allah, I want this job, I want to be rich, I want a child…” And if you are sincere and the conditions of dua are met, and there are no impediments, then you are guaranteed that Allah will respond.

Allah Guarantees Your Dua

What will that response be?

One of the three things:

1- You will get what you asked for.

2- You will get something equivalent. Allah knows that’s not good for you, so you’ll get something equivalent that is good for you.

3- A calamity that was destined for you is averted away.

So you will get something for everything that you ask for. When the companions heard this they said:

“O Prophet of Allah, if that is the case, we will ask for a lot.”

What prevents us from asking more and more? If every single dua we will get something back, then we’ll ask more and more.

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

Allah is much more than what you can ask for.

Never Be Stingy to Make Dua

Never ever be stingy in your dua. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

The stingiest of people who is too stingy to make dua.

Make dua for each and every thing, ask Allah and continue to ask Him. One of our scholars of the past said:

“The son of Adam, the more you ask him, the more irritated he gets with you, but the more you ask Allah, the more He loves you.”

The more you ask people, the more they want nothing to do with you, even your best friend, how much you’ll ask him before he’ll get tired.

There is a famous quote of Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her):

“If your shoelace breaks, make dua that Allah gives you a new shoelace. Because unless Allah has willed it, you want get a new shoelace.”

The point of this is to never trivialize your dua. If your shoelace breaks, make dua to Allah to give you a new one. That is not trivial in the eyes of Allah. You are showing Allah that you are a slave and He is the Lord. You are showing Allah that you need everything.

So ask Allah for all of your needs. Ask the big needs and the small needs, and ask for the needs of the hereafter and the needs of this world, and continue to ask Allah.

The more you ask Allah, the more He will love you.
